New Zealand -- a medium sized island in the South Pacific. Although
normally thought of as being off the coast of Australia, this is a
relative matter, it is in fact a 4-5 hour flight between the two.
The country consists of two main islands and a host of smaller
ones. The main islands are called, descriptively, North Island
and South Island. Overall the country is 1600km from north to
south
(
Map), each island being about 800km
long. Total land area is about 268,670 sq km, see the
CIA World Fact Book for more info than
you shake a sleepy possum at.
The population of New Zealand is about 3.6 million people, with the
official languages being English and Maori.
