New Zealand -- a medium sized island in the South Pacific. Although normally thought of as being off the coast of Australia, this is a relative matter, it is in fact a 4-5 hour flight between the two.
The country consists of two main islands and a host of smaller ones. The main islands are called, descriptively, North Island and South Island. Overall the country is 1600km from north to south (Map), each island being about 800km long. Total land area is about 268,670 sq km, see the CIA World Fact Book for more info than you shake a sleepy possum at.
The population of New Zealand is about 3.6 million people, with the official languages being English and Maori.
